FAQs

What is the Initial Consultation and why is it important?

You’re searching for the right therapist - one who really seems to get you. We know how important it is to find the right person to help you. I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to discuss what you would like help with and to make sure I am a good fit for your needs. If it’s a good match, then you will move forward and schedule your first counseling session. I will then e-mail you with a link to access the secure client portal where you will be able to complete your intake paperwork prior to your first therapy session. The intake paperwork is full of helpful information about my practice and includes a questionnaire for you to complete to help me get a better picture of your unique needs. Completing your paperwork ahead of time allows us to spend the full session diving right into what is truly troubling you.

What can I expect the first session to be like?

Like many people, you are probably wondering what to expect with your first session. We will meet for 60 minutes to continue the discussion of what brings you to therapy and what you you want to get out of your work together. I will review important policies and make sure you have the opportunity to ask questions or share concerns you may have. It is totally normal to have questions or concerns that need addressing before you feel ready to get started. This time with me is also another opportunity to get a feel for what it will be like to work together, and to both decide if you want to move forward.

How long does treatment last and how often will I have sessions?

You’re here because you’re tired of feeling stuck and you want to feel better fast! I want you to have the best possible outcome and feel better as soon as possible! I like to work with you intensely to focus on improving what’s troubling you. I’ve found that people who are able to commit to 12 weekly therapy sessions often see noticeable improvement faster than if they schedule on a monthly or even bi-weekly basis. I ask that if we are a good fit, and decide to work together that you commit to this schedule.

After 12 weekly sessions, we then evaluate your progress and decide if

  • you’ve met your goals (hooray!) and are ready to graduate!

  • you’re not quite where you want to be and you’d benefit from a referral to another therapist

  • you discover something else you would like to work on and continue our work together
